Konan stood on the cliff that was Pein's lair, always watchful for any intruders that might have happened to stumble upon the cave, only to meet their doom at the hands of her. Her nuteral expression remained steady as he eyes searched the barren landscape. It was not raining, and Konan was grateful for that; as when it rained, it usually meant that Pein had sensed a strong enemy, and Konan could bear to think that Pein would be beaten.
She cleared her doubts with a gently flick of her robe; Pein could never be beaten; how would he be when no ninja could even get past herself? On top of that, few ever really made it to the cave entrance, they either died at the hands of her paper clones, or at the hands of Pein's different henchmen. And even those were hardly ever used; Konan made sure of this by checking on them every day at Pein's orders, and they were hardly needed unless the ninja was S-ranked or higher.
Konan didn't feel like she needed to be on the cliff; there were no signs of the liberation camp ninjas, and both she and Pein knew this, since he had not been so wary of guarding his lair entrance, and he and Konan had actually had some time to talk amongst themselves; something that she never actually had the time to do; though when they had their conversations, it was quite enjoyable.
As these thoughts worked their way into Konan's head, she shook her head stubbornly as she remembered what she was supposed to be doing; she had a job at hand, and she wasn't going to slack off on it because of some cheerful memories. Her eyes remained at watch; it was Pein's orders, and she would not disobey them even if she died. Pein would not forgive her, and she certainly wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she failed his wishes.
Still, Konan could not supress the sigh that escaped her as she stood there on the high ledge, surveying the land below her.
